Knowing that I had two spare cushions in my attic with very tatty covers, I bought some extra pink-glitter-princess-ballerina fabric so I could make some cushion covers to match the "Middle class trauma" wall-hanging.
I found some glitter coated felt on Amazon in pink shades to match the fabric and followed the usual process of laborious measuring and drawing out the lettering in pencil on paper, before cutting the letters out of the fabric.
I came up with the words "Who took away your sparkle?" to match the ambigulously tragic melodrama of the wall-hanging. I decided to arrange the lettering around the ballerinas to optimise the fabric's pattern.
I was worried the sewing machine wouldn't like the texture of the glitter felt but it managed it fine. I did most of the sewing quite late at night, when I was quite tired but since I am familliar with the process, having made several similar textiles pieces, I was able to put my brain in auto-pilot and do the work methodically without making any glaringly visible errors.
I realised that I had made the cushion cover too wide, as it was quite loose. I also decided that, like the wall-hanging, the cushion cover needed some buttons to add texture and visual interest to the large blank spaces on the fabric design.
It would have made more sense to sew the buttons on earlier in the design process, but anyway, I managed.
I sewed the seam in another 2cm either side and it still seems a little bit loose, but it will do. I'm otherwise happy with how this turned out. I need to come up with an equally ridiculous phrase for the second cushion next.
