Well you did ask how the potato painting is going...

I messaged my Dad this morning "would you be up for doing some creative (silly) photography with me? I had an idea for my potainting sacks" to which he replied "I'm used to doing silly photography with you".

As ever, with my spontaneous ideas, I didn't have a plan for the photoshoot. I grabbed the two "potainting" sacks which I had finished and the Hessian painting I made for the print show at CSM.

Along with two potatoes which had started sprouting. I hadn't thought about it, but there is an allotment at the marina where my Dad lives and it turned out to be the perfect location in the sunshine.

I told Dad I wanted to try a few with the potato sacks over my head - this one ended up looking rather sinister.

I told Dad to switch the camera function to "portrait" to create an artistic shot focussing on the sprouting potato.

Then we moved location so we could get the wheelbarrow in shot and I swapped to the neon-coloured "potainting" sack.

I then asked Dad if we could film a video of me jumping in the "potainting" sackaft. We had three attempts at filming it before we ended up with this one, which I'm really happy with... Reviewing all the media afterwards, I realised this is the only one in which I am smiling and I think it is far more powerful because of that - joy as an act of defiance. I regret keeping a serious expression for the photographs.

The next thing I wanted to try was wearing the "potainting" sacks - which required cutting holes in them, so Dad dutifully went to his boat to find me some scissors.

I cut the holes too small in the first sack and Dad had to help wrestle me into it.

There was a spade conveniently left in one of the planters, so we took advantage of that for another pose.

I then swapped the "potainting" sacks - and made sure to cut the arm holes bigger this time.

Dad really wanted me to pose with this little scare crow for some reason...

Then I tried some "potatoe'd out' poses...

I posted the photos on Instagram with the caption "Well you did ask..."
